Let not your heart be troubled; you believe in God, believe also in Me.
John 14:1 (NKJV)
Troubled: to be distressed or anxious
Jesus shared with the disciples that He would be betrayed and that he would be leaving them soon. He then commands them not to allow their hearts to become distressed or anxious.
This command is significant because action initiated from an anxious heart looks for ways to control the outcome.
Knowing that the life altering information He shared with the disciples could induce anxious action, Jesus presents them with an alternative action. "You believe in God, believe also in Me."
Believe in: To have faith in the reliability of
Jesus presents the action of faith. He invites the disciples to have faith in His reliability, by telling them to believe. This same invitation is available to us now.
When faced with life altering circumstances, let us choose faith.
Let's not attempt to control the outcome with anxious action powered by our own strength.
Instead, let us move forward in faith filled action, knowing that the God that we trust is reliable.
He not only controls the outcome, He is the outcome.
Outcome: the way a thing turns out: the end result
I am the Alpha and the Omega.
I am the First and the Last.
I am the Beginning and the End.
Revelation 22:13 (NIRV)
For Reflection
When life happens, do I lean more toward anxious action or faith filled action?
How has God proven Himself reliable in my past? How can I carry that memory forward into my current situation?
In what areas can I increase my faith filled action?
