Pour

I’m reminded of your authentic faith, which first lived in your grandmother Lois and your mother Eunice. I’m sure that this faith is also inside you.

2 Timothy 1:5 (CSB)

In Paul's final letter, he personally addresses Timothy, his son in the ministry. In the featured scripture, Paul speaks of the authentic faith of Timothy's mother and grandmother that was poured out in Timothy's life.

Pour: express one's feelings or thoughts in a full and unrestrained way

Lois and Eunice expressed their feelings and thoughts about God, in a full and unrestrained way, in the lives that they lived before Timothy. It was their pour from Timothy's infancy, that contributed to the authentic faith that fueled his calling as a minister of the gospel. It is because of their pour, that Timothy was able to go on to live out the meaning of his name, "honoring God"

As we live a life that fully expresses our feelings and thoughts about God, we have the opportunity and responsibility to pour our faith into the lives of others.

Our pour can change the trajectory of a person's life and ministry.

Our pour can help to fulfill the work of the kingdom of God.

Our pour can help bring people to the saving knowledge of Jesus Christ.

Eunice and Lois' names are only mentioned once in the Bible. The one time their names are written, is with regard to the pour of faith they made into Timothy's life.

All of us have a calling and a work to complete for the kingdom of God. That calling may not cause our name to be known, but it should always result in God's name being known.

Our callings may be different, but we are all called to intentionally pour our faith into those that are assigned to us, just as Lois and Eunice did with Timothy.

Even if our name is never recognized, we must pour, because the kingdom of God is at hand.

Then he said to them, “Go into all the world and preach the gospel to all creation.

Mark 16:15 (CSB)

For Reflection

  1. Who has poured their faith into me?

  2. How has my life been affected by the pour of others?

  3. Who have I been assigned to pour into?
