Grace In This Place

Three times I pleaded with the Lord about this, that it should leave me. But he said to me, “My grace is sufficient for you, for my power is made perfect in weakness.” Therefore I will boast all the more gladly of my weaknesses, so that the power of Christ may rest upon me.

2 Corinthians 12 : 8-9

Paul had been given a thorn in his flesh.

The scripture passage describes him asking God to remove the thorn three times, to which God simply replies "My grace is sufficient"

There has been plenty of discussion regarding what Paul's thorn was, specifically.

All can agree that the thorn created significant discomfort.

Regardless of the type of discomfort, it was significant enough to ask for relief three times.

On that point, we can all relate to Paul.

We have all experienced discomfort, of great magnitude, that caused us to ask God to remove it.

Like Paul, sometimes God's response to us will be:

"My child, right here in this place, my grace is sufficient."

Grace:

The favor of Christ that assists and strengthens his followers.

A favor that serves to bear their troubles.

The grace of God is more than enough for all of our thorny situations.

It will help and strengthen us when our weakness seems unbearable.

In fact, the scripture reveals that His power is made perfect in our weakness.

When we rely on the grace of God in every thorny place; not only are we strengthened to handle it, the power of God is perfected.

What a gift.

When the will of God allows a thorn into our lives, let us lift our hands and declare to our Father:

"I want your perfected power to rest on me. I choose to rest in your grace in this place."

For Reflection

  1. What area(s) of my life have I viewed as thorns?

  2. Am I willing to trust God to strengthen me with his grace in those thorny places?
